People over 50 are encouraged to get the new Shingrix vaccine for shingles. This is the first Shingles vaccine approved by the FDA in 10 years, and is marketed as being up to 90% effective, almost 3x more than the previous Shingles vaccine. Even if you have received the previous shingles vaccine, you should still get this one.
This is a two-dose series vaccine; the 2nd dose being between 2-6 months after the first.
The Diocese will pay for the vaccine copays for the RETIRED priests (by using their MySource prescription card). Active priests, with their current insurance plan, will need to pay a small copay. Without insurance, the fee is approx. $140/vaccine.
Most doctor’s office do not carry it since it needs to be refrigerated.
